Tobin's Providence Logbook Apr 1, 1792

H M S Providence from Adventure Bay Van Diemens Land [towards Otaheite – 1792]

Sunday April 1st 1792

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and fair weather – Out all Reefs Fore Top Sail and set Steering Sails

 4 pm: Saw some Egg Birds – A Tropic Bird with a red Tail and a small brown Sheerwater

 7 pm: Light Airs, worked the pumps as usual – at 7 hauled down the Starboard steering Sails and Larboard [Low?] Steering Sail – moderate Breeze and fair

10 pm: at 10 Cloudy

12 mid: Fair weather

 2 am: Strong breeze and clear weather – In Steering Sails and 1st Reefs

 4 am: Shortened Sail occasionally for the Tender

 5 am: Moderate Breeze out 1st Reefs and made all Sail

 7 am: Thick portable Soup Gruel for Breakfast

 9 am: Cleaned below – Spread the Quarter Deck Awnings

11 am: Saw Two Tropic, and an Egg Bird
Mustered in Divisions after which Captain Bligh read prayers to the people – Served Krout and wort as usual & Borecole in the Pease for dinner

12 noon: At Noon Moderate breezes and fine weather Assistant in Company
 Broached a puncheon of Spruce Beer for the Ships Company
