During the past week we have been employed fishing up two of the Bounty's guns (long pines I believe[?]) For fifty five years they had been deposited on the bottom of the sea on a bed of coral guiltless of blood, during the time so many thousands of mankind in Europe became a food for cannon, but on Saturday last one of these guns resumed its original vocation; at least the innoxious portion of it, viz. belching forth fire and smoke and causing the Island to reverberate with its bellowing: The other gun is condemned to silence having been spiked by the Bountys crew.

The fever has made its appearance among us three persons have been attacked, it is of a billious type.

The sick are better. No fresh cases.

Mar 19, 1845

Eight fresh cases to day. Violent pain in the head burning heat and cramp in the arms and thighs are what the affected persons complain of chiefly to which is added in some cases a dull pain in the back

Fourteen more are on the list and several others complaining. The Teacher who acts in the capacity of doctor also, is continually upon the run, vomits and jalap are the order of the day, and there is not a house in which there is not one or more sick.

Mar 22, 1845

" 22nd
The number of sick is greatly on the increase, the first attacked are now convalescent, but more than thirty are suffering. The Teacher is also sick & it is with great difficulty he can get from house to house.
