Bounty Logbook Remarks, Oct. 3, 1788

Thursday, Oct. 2, 1788

1:00 pm Calm & Fine Weather and continued with very light Airs of Wind untill Midnight, when a Swell began to make from the Sourthward.

5:00 pm Caught several Small Blubbers in a Bucket great numbers being about the Ship. I saw no difference with the common Blubber in the West Indies. Species of the Medusa.

11:00 pm The Sea covered with Blubbers and many being close to the Ships sides, I had a most perfect view of them. They emit a light like the blaze of a Candle, and could plainly discover that it came from the Strings that hung from them, which altered the form of it, as they were extended or contracted, the body being distinctly visible.
