[H M S Providence from St Helena Islands towards] St. Vincents in the West Indies – 1793

Remarks Saturday January 12th

 1 pm: Moderate breeze and fine weather

 3 pm: Squally with Rain – shortened Sail made Sail again

 6 pm: Dark squalls with Rain – In 1st Reefs

 9 pm: Set the Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

10 pm: Cloudy

11 pm: Squally – in Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

12 mid: Set Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

 3 am: In Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

 5 am: Fresh gales and cloudy

 7 am: Served thick portable Soup gruel for breakfast – Served sour Krout – Washed all the Decks – Sailmaker repairing the mizen Top Gallant Sail – people washing and mending their cloaths

11 am: at 11 Hard squall and thick weather in 2d Reefs & clewed up the Top Sails – At Noon strong gale and cloudy weather – Sun out at times
