Friday December 21st Strong breezes and Squally – received 15 puncheons of water by a companys craft and more by our own Launch – received fresh Beef – Sent people as usual to gather water Cresses & served them to the Crew – confined John Curry Seaman for neglect of duty
Saturday December 22d Fresh breezes and Squally – employed watering and stowing away in the Holds – Arrived a dutch Bay Sloop of war from the Cape of Good Hope & saluted us with 11 Guns, returned it with 9 – AM moderate breezes with Light Showers of rain at 9 the Prudentia a Ship under Genoese colours anchored here from India – And at Noon H M. Sloop of war Atalanta Captain John Elphinstone, & East India company Ship Ganges, Captain Garnault, both from India & last from the Cape of good hope – Served fresh beef & water Cresses as usual – broached a Puncheon of Spruce beer – Employed watering & stowing away in the fore and Main Holds – Washed below and aired with the Brodie's Stove
Sunday December 23d Moderate breezes and cloudy weather – employed watering and Stowing the holds – At 7 in the evening the Dutch Brig sailed for the Cape – she is one of a Squadron now at the Cape and was ent here in hopes of gaining information of the State of Europe at this critical time – got up Top Gallant Yards and loosed sails to dry – at 11 an American Ship passed by – furled Sails – served fresh beef & water cresses
