Tobin's Providence Logbook Dec 9, 1792

[H M S Providence from Timor towards St. Helena] – 1792

Remarks Sunday December 9th

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and fair weather – People washing & mending their cloath

 4 pm: Hazy – Saw a Whale

 5 pm: Worked the Pumps as usual

 8 pm: Fresh gale with dark cloudy weather a heavy dew falling – Burnt a falses fire & shortened Sail for the Assistant – at 10 burnt another which was again answered by our consort

 1 am: Set Steering Sails, the Assistant being in her Station

 4 am: Fresh Gales and cloudy – shortened Sail for the Assistant, – Dark cloudy weather – Saw a few brown Sheerwaters, and some brown birds of the gull species

 8 am: Fresh breezes and fair – Served the usual breakfast – cleaned below & aired with fires

10 am: Mustered the Ships Company in Divisions

12 noon: Moderate breezes and fair weather with haze
   Latitude Observed 26°..07′ South
