1 pm: Moderate breeze and pleasant weather but very hazy – At 1 PM Saw Land from the Mast head bearing W½Squall which soon after we distinguished to be these Islands

 3 pm: at 3 hour..30 mintues Extremes of E from S66°W to S76°W 6 or 7 Leagues – F from S82°W to S89°W about 7 Leagues – G WBN most distant Island 8 or 9 Leagues – D at this Time EBS 7 Leagues – at 5 hour..45 minutes The nearest parts of E & F came in at N72°W

 6 pm: At 6 extremes of E from N78°W to N60°W distant 3 or 4 Leagues – at 6 hour..15 mintues The Eastern part of E and eastern part of F came on at N56°W – The Western point E N72°W (about 4 Leagues off Shore) – G NW¾W 7 or 8 Leagues – at ½ past 6 In Top Gallant Sails and 2d Reefs – Spoke the Assistant [having the lead?] sprung her Main Top Mast Trestle Trees

 1 am: Wore Ship per Signal

 2 am: The Assistant leading on each Tack with a light

 4 am: Wore Ship per Signal

 6 am: At 6 bore away at 7 made sail – Fresh breeze and dark gloomy weather – no Land in sight – Saw many flying fish – at 30 minutes past 9 the Assistant struck the Main Top Mast and before Noon had her Top Gallant sail set again – Employed working up Junk – Boats crews exercising at small Arms – Served the usual at breakfast & Bore cole & portable Soup in the pease for dinner – served the Weekly allowance of Vinegar per Man – Saw small brown sheerwaters, porpoises & Tropic birds, and a devil fish – At Noon a strong breeze and fair weather – hazy on the horizon – Assistant in Company
