Tobin's Providence Logbook Mar 1, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Adventure Bay Van Diemens] Land towards Otaheite in 1792

Thursday March 1st 1792

 1 pm: Fresh Gale and cloudy weather

 2 pm: Handed the Main Sail

 3 pm: Made Sail, the Assistant in her Station

 6 pm: Hazy weather – Sw two small Divers, a Cape Hen and some Rock weed

 7 pm: at 7 Down Steering Sails, In 1st Reef Main & Mizen & 2d Fore Top Sail

 9 pm: Thick misty weather

 1 am: Thick hazy weather

 2 am: A Luminous appearance in the water in spots

 4 am: Moderate breeze and hazy

 5 am: Out Reefs and set the Fore Top Mast Steering Sails

 7 am: Set the Fore Steering Sails. The Fog clears away – Saw a Bird of the water believed to be a Penguin – Struck a Porpoise – Served thick Gruel, and portable Soup for Breakfast – Cleaned below and aired with fires – Saw Rock weed covered with Barnacles, Porpoises, & the same kind of Birds as yesterday – A swell from the SW – Sailmaker repairing the Fore Top Sail

12 noon: At Noon Moderate Breeze and thick hazy weather – People had Bore cole in the pease for Dinner
 Served Slops to the Ships Company
   No Observation
