[Log &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the Island] of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791

Thursday October 20th

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and cloudy weather with a long swell from the Westward

 4 pm: Fine open cloudy weather

 6 pm: Squally

 8 pm: Fresh Breezes and Cloudy

10 pm: Very dark in the SE Quarter

12 mid: AM – Moderate and cloudy made & shortened sail occasionally for our Consort

 5 am: Fresh Breezes and fine clear weather the swell much fallen

 8 am: Light Breezes and cloudy weather washed the Gun deck and cleaned the Orlop – aired the Ship with fires

11 am: The Armourer working at the forge – at 11 Hauled down the Lower & Top Mast Studding sails – Broached a puncheon of Spruce Beer

12 noon: At Noon Light Breezes and fine open cloudy weather – Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 26°..34′ South
