Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 19, 1791

Log &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the Island [of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Wednesday October 19th

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and Squally with Rain

 2 pm: More moderate made the Assistants signal to make more sail

 6 pm: Moderate and cloudy – saw an Albatross

 8 pm: Hazy

10 pm: Fresh Gale and cloudy made & shortened Sail occasionally for the Assistant

 4 am: Fine weather – The Air very cool, and a slight dew

 8 am: Cloudy cleaned below, and aired the Ship with fires – The People on deck employed making Mats and repairing the Ratlines – The Armourer at the Forge

11 am: Saw three Tropic Birds

12 noon: At Noon Fresh Breeze with haze & a heavy swell from the Westward
 The Assistant in Company – Saw an Albatross – Latitude Observed 26°..09′ South
