Tobin's Providence Logbook Sep 16, 1791

[Log Book &c. of H M Ship Providence from Port Praya in the] Island of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791

Friday September 16th

 1 pm: Light Breezes and fair weather

 2 pm: Carpenters and Armourers employed fixing the Brodie Stoves in the Fore and After Cockpits

 5 pm: Light Airs – Lightning in the SW

 7 pm: Tacked Ship and stood to the SE

10 pm: Cloudy weather

12 mid: Light Winds with heavy clouds and Rain at times

 3 am: Lightning to the Eastward

 4 am: Light Airs – Thunder and Lightning to the ESE with every appearance of heavy rain

 7 am: Very dark from SSW to Eastward

 8 am: Calm – rain – Got Casks placed on Deck to [?] rain water from the Awnings

 9 am: A swell from the NE – Kept a fire in the Brodie Stoves in the Fore and After Cockpits – The People employed washing their cloaths and mending them

12 noon: At Noon Calm, with Rain, dark cloudy weather The Air cooler than it has been for some days
