Flinders's Providence Logbook Jan 12, 1793

Remarks ♄ [Saturday] January 12th 1793 H.M.S. Providence

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes & fair Weather

 2 pm: Squally with rain at Times, Made and shortened Sail occasionally

 4 pm: Cloudy Weather – a Swelol from the ENE.

 6 pm: Thick Weather with frequent Squalls – before Dark single reefed the Topsails

 8 pm: Ditto Weather

 9 pm: Set the Fore Top Mast Studding sail

11 pm: Squally obliged to take it in again

12 mid: Fresh Breezes & Cloudy Weather Set the Fore Top Mast Studding sail

 3 am: Breeze increasing, Took in the Studding sail again

 5 am: Fresh Gale and cloudy Weather

 7 am: took in the Top Gallant sails, the Assistant dropping astern

 8 am: Washed below and aired with Fires

 9 am: Sailmakers repairing the Mizen Top Gallant sail. People washing and mending their Cloaths

11 am: At 11 a hard Squall and thick Weather Second reefed and clued up the Topsails.

12 noon: At Noon Fresh Gales and cloudy Weather Sun faintly at Times seen thro the Clouds but scarcely sufficient to give a good Observation
