1 pm: Fresh Gale and squally Weather The Assistant in her Station – Made more Sail – Set Top Gallant sails
3 pm: Out 2nd reef of the Fore and Main topsails
6 pm: Moderate Breezes & Cloudy Weather Spoke the Assistant All well, the Captain sent Mr Portlock a Peice of fresh Pork by a lead line
8 pm: Dark cloudy Weather the Wind very unsettled both in Quantity & Direction – In 2nd reefs – In Top Gallant sails
10 pm: Light Winds. Ship falling off to SE made the Signal to wear and wore accordingly
11 pm: Very Dark
12 mid: Dark squally Weather
1 am: Heavy Squalls of Wind & Rain. Hands turned up – Close reefed the Fore and Main and handed the Mizen topsail – Hauled up the Fore and Main sail and sent down Top Gallant yards – At 3 the Weather more settled. the Assistant a considerable Distance ahead. answered a false Fire from her by shewing a light
4 am: At 4 moderate Breeze with heavy clouds – Made Sail gradually till under Double reefed Topsails
8 am: Fresh Breezes and cloudy Weather heavy SW swell Saw an Albatross, several Sheerwaters and a Whale. Exercised Great Guns – People employed working up Junk & Carpenters giving the Jolly boat a second Coat of Paint. A Cask of Spruce Beer broached for the Ships Company as before
12 noon: At Noon Fresh Breezes & Cloudy Weather rather Hazey – Assistant in Company ahead
