Flinders's Providence Logbook Nov 5, 1792

Remarks Monday 5th In the Indian Ocean Homewards

 1 pm: Strong Gales and cloudy Weather with a SW Swell Bent the best Jibb

 3 pm: Saw Tropic Birds and Sheerwaters – Fresh Gale and fair Weather

 5 pm: Passed by some rock weed

 6 pm: Let the 3rd reef out of the Main topsail

 8 pm: Ditto Weather

12 mid: Cool Air Weather clear and pleasant

 1 am: Out 3rd reef of the Fore topsail

 2 am: Out 2nd reef of the Main and Mizen topsails

 4 am: Steady Fresh Breeze and fine Weather the Head sea much fallen and Ship much easier – Up Top Gallant yards and set the reefs. Out all reefs and set the Lower & Fore topmast Studding sails – Saw several Tropic Birds Sheerwaters & Gulls

 8 am: Fresh Breezes and cloudy – Aired below with Stoves

10 am: People working up Junk – Exercised Boats Crews at Small Arms – A Cask of Spruce Beer broached for the Ships Company as before

12 noon: At Noon Fresh Breezes and fair Weather
   Assistant in Company
