1 pm: Moderate breezes and fine weather
4 pm: At 4 the body of the Island of Myteea bore South distant about 1½ miles. Shortened sail and hove to on the starboard tack. At ½ past wore ship and sent the Jolly boat for Lieutenant Portlock – In boat. – Three Canoes came alongside with some fruit and one man wore a shirt. Lieutenant Portlock returned to the Assistant: up boat and made sail Bore up at 6 – worked the Pumps – Myteea East 6 miles. – At ½ past 6 down steering sails and in 1st & 2nd reefs Top Sails.
12 mid: At ½ past 12 strong breezes and squally with heavy showers. Clewed up the Top Sails. In 3rd reef Fore & Main, and handed Mizen Top Sail
4 am: At 4 Fresh breezes and fair weather unstowed the Anchors – At 7 hove to, head to the Northward.
8 am: At 8 thick weather & squally with heavy rain at times. The Island of Otaheite from WbS to SSE½E – Peninsula south – ½ past 8 bore up the weather more clear. Out 3rd reef Top Sails and sat Top Gallant Sails. – Employed working into Matavai Bay. At ½ past 11 brought with the Best Bower in 9 fathoms water – Handed sails – out boats
12 noon: At Noon Fresh breezes and fair weather Assistant in company. Broached a Puncheon of Spruce Beer.
