Sunday 24 Fresh gales and hazy weather. sat up the lower rigging AM. small rain – received Beer. Employed cleaning the ship &c for sea. Hoisted in the Launch. Punished John Jones Marine with 12 Lashes for neglect of duty. read the Articles of War and Mustered the ships company
Monday 25 Fresh gales and cloudy – middle part squally with rain. Employed as necessary
Tuesday 26 Fresh gales and showering weather – AM strong gales – Employed working up Junk. Loosed sails to dry
Wednesday 27 Light breezes and continual rain – Employed as necessary
Thursday 28 Moderate and cloudy. At 4 PM furled sails as per signal – Employed working up Junk. AM. Moderate – Unbent the sheet cable. sailed HMS Salisbury for Newfoundland
Friday 29 Moderate and fair weather – Employed as duty required At 4 AM. veered away and unmoored, hove in to half a Cable on the small Bower – Washed & cleaned fore & aft – Fresh gales and hazy weather.
Saturday 30 Fresh gales and clear weather – Employed putting service on the small Bower cable – At 5 PM. blowing strong with rain. got up a range of the best Bower At 11 PM. veered to the whole cable service and struck lower Yards & Top Gallant Masts per signal. At 1 more moderate hove in to ½ Cable service. At 8 AM up Lower Yards & Top Gallant Masts. received Fresh Beef – Beer & returned empty casks – Opened a cask of Pork No. 1778 – Contents 53 double pieces
