Bond's Providence Logbook May 21-26, 1791

Remarks &c

May 1791

Saturday 21  Fresh breezes and cloudy weather. got up the fore rigging. received on board a boat load of garden Pots, and some Boatswains stores from the yard. AM. Ditto Weather. got off the Top Gallant Masts Jibb-boom and Mizen Topsail yard – swayed up the Top Gallant masts and rigged them. received empty casks, Provisions and Boatswains and Carpenters stores sat up the Main rigging and [dropped?] up alongside of the sheer Hulk – Caulkers and Carpenters still employed – Mustered per Cheque.

Sunday 22  Moderate and cloudy employed occasionally in cleaning the ship

Monday 23  Moderate and clear weather. AM fresh breezes with rain – got off the Top sail, spritsail, and cross jack yards, & gaff and spanker booms – received sundry kinds of Provisions. Employed about the rigging &c. Carpenters &c employed on board

Tuesday 24  Fresh breezes with rain. received Boatswains stores and 4 fathoms of wood from Blackwall. employed stowing the Holds and taking in empty Puncheons for the 2nd. tier. received Fresh Beef from Mr. Mellish who has several times disappointed the ships Company in not sending it down as demanded – some riggers from the yard employed, who only altered the eyes of the Top sail brace pendants, which were badly fitted at Woolwich Yard – employed filling water, and rigging & crossing the Topsail yards

Wednesday 25  Calm and cloudy, received Carpenters stores and [?] fathoms of wood from Blackwall. set up the Topmast rigging for & aft – shifted in the lower rigging – received more stores 207 bags of Bread – artificers still at work but very slow. Ships draught of water Forward 12 feet:03 Inches Aft 12:02

Thursday 26  Moderate and clear weather. employed in the Hold – Carpenters and Joiners employed about the ship
