P. 76 - 2 Jun 1789 Remarks

At day dawn Sailed – Found my watch stoped. I must now guess at the hour of the day wch. must be imperfect as to time of events. – Passed the northst. Land seen from Lagoon Isld WNW & NW about 3 or 4 leagues off. — All ye- Main continues of a moderate height & full of Sand Hills. — The alteration of the Sea induces me to think we have passed several openings to the Sea through the Reefs— My Latd. Cape York (if it is the Cape) is 11°:18 S. It is a sandy Cape spotted with what grows on it—A long sandy Isld. just above water lies to the northd. & eastward of it & bore West of us at Noon — on the Main a few leags. to the northd. are two remarkable Hills which we called the Paps. Comg from ye- Southd. C. York may be first known by a flat Hill at the back of it wch. resembles a pudding Pan turned upside down. – The northermost land insight terminated in a low point & a Key bore NEbE abt. 3 or 4 legs. – The Isld. NE 2 Miles is a pretty Spot full of Trees & lies easterly of the low point 4 or 5 leagues. —
