The weather is again turned so very cloudy that I can make no astronomical observations. My time is nevertheless taken up in endeavoring to find the Rate of the Time Keeper, which with other duties of consequence to my sailing will give me but little leisure with the Natives.
Tynah is as usual my constant guest at Noon with some of his Family. He is now preparing a Present of a Parrigh for the King and desires it may be given to him. The Idea of going to England is given up very reluctanly by him, and it would be a very difficult task for me to get the better of his inclination, if I had accomodations to take him, it is therefore with the hope that if any ships come here again they will be of a much larger size, and that apartments will be allotted for him which has caused him to relinquish his Plan. I have ever avoided as much as possible giving him hopes of any kind, but he has been so importuante that I could not help telling him King George would be very much pleased at his kindness and friendly behaviour to us, and I had no Idea that he would have any objection to his coming to England. "Tell King George to send for me" he said, "tell him I shall expect some of his ships here in 30 months and I will have many Hogs and plenty of every thing to eat for them" This is the mode of his constant conversation with me for Omai has impressed on the minds so much in favor of England, that I could if I had occasion for it, man the ship with Otaheiteans, and even with Cheifs.
