NOTES:

Lewis Monto's sketches of Diego Ramirez (Cape Horn), Martin Vass, & Ferdinand Noronha in 1833-34 was originally found in his manuscript journal of the 1828-1830 whaling cruise of the Nantucket whale ship, Plough Boy, Nathan Chase, commander. Monto was cooper on the two voyage of the Plough Boy in 1828-1830; in 1830-1834 he sailed as third mate and returned as second mate.

The sketch is now in the collection of the Nantucket Historical Association on the island of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
