H.M.S. Bounty burned at Pitcairns Island
—
Fastoo. Wife of John Williams dies.
October
Thursday October Christian born.
Matthew Quintal, Daniel McCoy,
Elizabeth Mills and Charles Christian born
Massacre of part of the mutineers (Christian, Mills, Brown, Williams, and Martin) by the Tahitians. The Tahiti men all killed part by jealousy among themselves, the others by the remaining Englishmen
A great desire in many of the women to leave the Island, a boat built for the purpose of removing them, launched, and upset. Fortunate for them that she did so, for had they launched out upon the ocean, where could they have gone or what could a few ignorant women have done by themselves, drifting upon the waves but also similarly have fallen a sacrifice to their folly.
August 16th,
a grave was dug, and the bones of all the white men
that had been murdered were buried.
August 17th,
the first boat built and launched.
Oct. 3rd,
the celebration of the murder of the Tahitians
was held at Quintal's house.
Nov. 11th,
a conspiracy of the women to kill all the white men
when asleep in their beds was discovered;
they were all seized, a disclosure ensued, and
all were pardoned.
Nov. 30th,
the women attacked the white men,
but no one
was hurt; they were once more pardoned, and
threatened the next time with death.
