Jan. 2nd. Fletcher Christian, sen., elected magistrate. William Quintall and Matthew M’Coy, councillors.
“ 14th. ChristianCharles Christian, sen., died, after a lingering illness.
Oct. 5th. George Adams fell from a tree, by which be was much injured.
“ 10th. Oliver M. Quintall born.
Dec. 3rd. A sad accident this day befel Stephen Christian, an infant fifteen months old. During the temporary absence of its mother, the child overturned an iron pot of hot water, by which it was dreadfully scalded.
“ 8th. Adeline Sophia Christian born.
“ 10th. Stephen Christian died, in consequence of his accident on the 3rd.
Births this year, 3; deaths, 2. Several cases of inflammatory fever exist at present. Ships holding communication with the island, 31. Inhabitants: males, 53; females, 59. 20 males and 20 females eligible to vote at the magisterial election. 50 children attend Sunday-school.
Jan. 2nd. Matthew M’Coy elected magistrate; Arthur Quintall and Simon Young, councillors.
“ 7th. Two persons yesterday, and three this day, have been attacked with the fever, which is of an inflammatory type, commencing with a shivering, succeeded by violent pain in the loins and head, and much febrile heat. Emetics and application of warm water to the feet, hands, and loins, are the principal remedies applied; and under the Divine blessing, they have been attended with beneficial results.
March 4th. Eleven of the inhabitants sailed in the barque America, for the purpose of exploring Elizabeth Island.
“ 5th. Arrived H.M.S. Talbot, Capt. Sir T. Thompson, Bart.; after remaining on shore, and adjusting some of the most pressing judicial cases presented to him, Sir Thomas went on board, and sailed for Valparaiso.
“ 11th. Barque America returned from Elizabeth Island, our people bringing a very unfavourable report of it.

April 16th. John Adams married to Caroline Quintal. Mary Quintall born.
“ 23rd. Mary Quintal, wife of Arthur Quintal, died, aged 24.
May 5th. George E. C. Nobbs born.
“ 21st. Regia [Kezia] Quintall born.
Oct. 5th. Stephen Christian born.
Nov. 16th. Mary [Sarah] M’Coy born.
Dec. 17th. Polly Adams died from cancer in the breast.
Number of births this year, 6; deaths, 2; marriage, 1. Much sickness experienced. Ships touched here, 29. Inhabitants: males, 59; females, 60. 20 males and 21 females eligible to vote. The public school has been closed since August, from the illness of the teacher.
Jan. 8th. Thursday O. Christian elected magistrate. John and William Quintall elected councillors.
May 16th. Polly Young [Pauline Adams] born.
June 2nd. Edward Quintall born. Several cases of fever and cough, and oppression of the stomach, chiefly among young children.
July 31st. Isaac Christian married to Mirriam Young.
“ 28th. Arrived H.M.S. Basilisk, Capt. Henry Hunt, bringing presents to the inhabitants, from the British Government, Admiral Thomas, and from the Rev. Mr. Armstrong and other friends in Valparaiso.
" 29th. Capt. Hunt assembled the inhabitants, and disposed of such cases as were presented to him for adjudication.
“ 30th. The presents above mentioned were landed. The surgeon, Dr. Johnson, vaccinated sixty of the inhabitants, and prescribed for several cases of sickness.
“ 31st. Capt. Hunt assembled the inhabitants, made some alterations, and suggested others, for the improvement of the community generally. Appointed a commercial agent, and in the evening sailed for the Sandwich Islands.
Aug. 1st. Re-opened the public school. Edward Quintall baptized. This child was born on July 8th.
“ 12th. All our hopes concerning the late vaccination are at an end; it has turned out a complete failure.
Sept. 9th. Gilbert Christian born. The first fortnight was devoted to surveying and adjusting boundaries and landmarks, not having completed it, it is to be resumed after the yam planting is over.
Oct. 6th. George Adams, widower, and Sarah M’Coy, widow, married. Levi W. Quintall born on the 10th instant.
Births this year, 5; deaths, 0; marriages, 2. Ships touched here, 18. Inhabitants; males, 60; females, 61. 24 males and 28 females eligible for voting at the magisterial election. Weeds overrun the island Worms infest the potatoes. There is a comet in sight. 44 children attend the school.
