“Sir,—I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter, dated at sea the 19th of last month, with its several enclosures, containing an account of your proceedings in carrying into effect the orders of His Majesty’s Government with respect to the removal of the inhabitants of Pitcairn’s Island to Otahite.
“The manner in which this service has been conducted, cannot fail to prove highly satisfactory to His Majesty’s Government, and I am convinced it will duly appreciate the benefit which has been derived from the zeal and judgment with which Lieutenant Peake performed the duties he was charged with, as stated in your letter.
“I have only further to express my approbation of the arrangement entered into with Mr. Bicknell, for supplying the people removed to Otahite with meat and vegetables, and to acquaint you that the terms of the contract will be duly observed, as far as depends on this Government.
