1:00 pm Fresh Gale and much Sea with Squalls of Rain
6:00 pm Served 1/24 pound Bread and a Jill of water. Sea constantly breaking on us
8:00 pm Dark dismal night not stars to see to steer by only the Wind to direct us
7:00 am Dark Cloudy Weather with
squalls of Rain but not so
much wind. High breaking Sea.
Served 1/24 pound Bread and a
Jill of water for breakfast.
12:00 pm Fair Weather & Cloudy. Got our cloaths to dry.
Got a good observation. Saw a Booby, Noddies and a Mother Carey's Chicken.

Jill of water & I advanced
today about 1 ounce of Pork to each person.
Fresh Gales and Rainy Weather. The Night was dark and dismal. Not a Star to be seen to Steer by and the Sea breaking constantly over us. I find it necessary to act as much as possible against these Southerly Winds lest I be drove too near New Guinea, for in general we are drove so much before the Sea, unless at moderate intervals I was to keep my course up more to the southward to prevent my falling in with that Coast, we should inevitably from a continuance of the Gales be thrown in sight of it, in which case most probably an End to our Voyage would soon be the consequence.
In addition to our miserable allowance of 1/24 pound of Bread and and [sic] a Jill of water I issued to day for dinner about an ounce of Pork to each person. I am often sollicited for this Pork, but I consider it better to give it in ever so small quantities than use all at once or twice, which would be the case if I would allow it.
