Tobin's Providence Logbook Jan 31, 1793

[H M Ship Providence from St. Vincents] towards Jamaica – 1793

Thursday January 31st

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and fine weather

 2 pm: Saw Sea weed

 4 pm: Ditto Weather – worked the Pumps as usual

 6 pm: Fresh Gale – in steering Sails & 1st Reefs

 8 pm: Clear weather – set the Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

10 pm: Squally – in Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

 2 am: Strong Squalls with light Rain, made & shortened Sail occasionally

 6 am: Steady breeze and fair weather set the lower and Fore Top Mast Steering Sails

 8 am: Fine weather – cleaned below & aired with fires – Sailmakers fixing a new Quarter deck awning – Served fresh Beef – At Noon fresh breeze & Squally with Showers – Assistant in Company – Broached a Puncheon of Spruce Beer Latitude Observed 15°..16′ North
