H M Ship Providence from St Helena towards [St. Vincents – 1793]

Remarks Monday January 21st

 1 pm: Moderate breezes and fine weather

 2 pm: Set the larboard Main Top Mast Steering Sail

 4 pm: Saw a Man of war bird

 5 pm: Worked the Pumps as usual

 8 pm: Fine weather

10 pm: In Main Top Mast Steering Sail & Fore Top Gallant Royal

 2 am: Moderate breezes and clear weather

 3 am: Squally with drops of rain

 5 am: Fine weather scrubbed the 1st Divisions hammocks

 6 am: Saw many Egg Birds

 8 am: Served thick portable Soup gruel for breakfast

 9 am: Moderate breezes and fine weather cleaned below – Aired ship with fires – Carpenters making a Main Top Gallant Mast Sailmaker repairing the old Jib – Exercised great guns – Mustered and took an account of the Peoples cloaths – Served Vinegar – Borecole & Portable Soup thickened with Oatmeal for dinner

12 noon: Moderate breeze and fine weather – Assistant in Company
   Broached a Puncheon of Spruce – Latitude Observed 13..07 North
