H M S Providence from St Helena Islands towards [St. Vincents in the West Indies – 1793]

Remarks Monday January 7th

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and fine weather – Saw a Portuguese Man of war, a brown Sheerwater and a Mother Careys Chicken

 5 pm: Worked the Pumps

 6 pm: Ditto Weather

12 mid: Ditto Weather – Porpoises about the Ship

 4 am: Fresh breezes and fine weather

 5 am: Served thick portable Soup gruel for Breakfast – cleaned below and aired with fires – exercised great guns – The Marines fired with small Arms – Lowered the Main Top Sail to mend it – at ½ past 10 departed this Life of a dysentery Thomas Galloway wardroom Cook aged about 47 – Served the weekly allowance of Vinegar – Bore cole & Portable Soup mixed with oatmeal for dinner at Noon moderate breeze & cloudy weather – Broached a Puncheon of Spruce Beer
