H M S Providence from St Helena Islands towards [St. Vincents in the West Indies – 1793]

Remarks Saturday January 5th

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and cloudy weather – People washing and mending their cloaths, saw flying fish

 5 pm: Squally with small Rain – In Royals

 6 pm: Worked the Pumps as usual

 8 pm: Cloudy with small rain, & Lightning

12 mid: Squally with showers

 2 am: Ditto Weather

 4 am: Fresh breeze and cloudy with light squalls and rain – Saw many flying fish –

 6 am: Clear weather – served thick portable soup gruel for Breakfast – Washed the Gun, Orlop, & Cockpit decks & aired ship with fires – Exercised the Marines at small Arms & fired – Sailmaker on the Mizen Top Sail – Opened a Cask of Pork No 3 contents 132 double Pieces – Served sour Krout – Broached a Puncheon of Spruce beer

12 noon: Fresh Breeze & Squally – Latitude Observed 3°..54′ South
