1 pm: Moderate breezes and fine weather – at 1 Shortened Sail and hoisted out the whale boat – sent on board the Assistant for Lieutenant Portlock and made sail – People employed washing and mending their cloaths – Saw Albatrosses, Sheerwaters, Pintadas a Nautilus (Portuguese Man of War) and a Large School of Porpoises – Served Tobacco to the Crew
7 pm: At 7 Lieutenant Portlock returned to the Assistant in the whale boat – The Surgeon this afternoon extracted two pieces of bone 2¼ inches long, part of the point of an Arrow that wounded one of the three Men in [blank] Straits near three months since; and believes the point is stilll in his shoulder, tho' not at present to be found – The incision was two or three Inches Deep – At 8 hauled dowdn the after steering Sails – at 10 In 1st Reef Main Top Sail – ½ past in steering Sails foreward
12 mid: At 12 Light breezes and cloudy – dew falling
2 am: At 2 moderate and fair – passed through a strong rippling – at 4 fresh breezes and fair – Saw several Whales, Sheerwaters, and Albatrosses – Crossed the Spritsail Topsail Yard
8 am: In 1st Reef Fore Top Sail – Ditto Mizen Top Sail – Served the usual breakfast of Portable Soup gruel – swept clean below – Mustered in Divisions, and Captain Bligh read prayers to the Ships Company – In 2d Reef Fore Top Sail – strong breeze – Served Krout and broached a puncheon of Spruce Beer – Saw Sheerwaters Pintada birds & a mother Carys Chicken
12 noon: Fresh Gale and cloudy
