H M Ship Providence from Timor towards [St. Helena – 1792]

Remarks Thursday 25th October

 1 pm: Fresh Gales and cloudy weather – Saw Sheerwaters

 4 pm: Worked the Pumps as usual

 7 pm: In Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

10 pm: Fresh breezes and cloudy weather – Set Fore Top Mast Steering Sail Up Top Gallant Yards and set Main Top Gallant Sail

 1 am: Ditto Weather

 3 am: Squally with Rain in Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

 5 am: More settled, out 2d Reefs Mizen Top Sail – set Fore Top Gallant Sail and Lower & Fore Top Mast Steering Sail – Scv for Breakfast at 8 OClock as usual Thick portable Soup gruel – Fresh Breezes and cloudy saw Sheerwaters and flying fish, a Man of war and a tropic bird – Cleaned below and aired ship with fires – Served sour Krout – Stowed the cutter in the Launch – Carpenters caulking the water ways on the Main Deck – Aired the small Sails
   Latitude Observed 15°..22′ South

12 noon: At Noon a fresh Gale and Squally with a few drops of rain, Assistant in Company
