Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 19, 1792

H M Ship Providence from Timor towards St. Helena [– 1792]

Friday October 19th

 1 pm: Fresh Breeze and fair weather

 5 pm: Worked the Pumps

 7 pm: Strong Breezes and cloudy in Top Gallant Sails Lower Steering Sail and 1st Reefs

12 mid: Fresh Gale and cloudy

 5 am: At Day break made all Sail. Saw Tropic Men of War birds and sheerwaters, Porpoises & flying fish – Served thick portable Soup gruel for Breakfast

 9 am: Cleaned below and aired with fires – served the daily allowance of ½ a pint of Vinegar per Man with portable soup in the Pease for dinner – Unbent the second best, and bent the old Topsails – Sailmakers & carpenters employed as yesterday – People working up Junk – At Noon fresh breezes and fair with Haze – Assistant leading according to her Station – Latitude Observed 12°..14′..22″ South
