Tobin's Providence Logbook Sep 23, 1792

[H M Ship Providence] 1792

Sunday 23d September

 1 pm: Fresh Trade and fair weather – served Slops to the People

 2 pm: Employed washing and mending the cloaths

 4 pm: Carpenter and Sailmaker employed about the Plant House

 7 pm: In Steering Sails Top Gallant Sails and 2d Reefs Top Sails Spoke the Assistant

 8 pm: At 8 made the Strong and at 20 minutes past hauled to the wind – clear weather

11 pm: Wore Ship per Signal every two hours during the night – the Ast leading on each Tack

 1 am: Fresh breezes and cloudy

 3 am: New stropped one of the Mizen Top Sail Sheet blocks that had given way

 5 am: At ½ past 5 bore up and made all Sail the Assistant leading – Saw Porpoises, a Sea Snake & a Tropic bird – passed patches of Brown Scum

 8 am: Served thick portable Soup Gruel for Breakfast

 9 am: Fresh breezes and fine weather – cleaned below

10 am: Mustered the People in divisions and performed divine Service

12 noon: A Fresh breeze and fair weather with haze – shortened Sail and sounded as per Column – Served Krout in the Pease for dinner
