Tobin's Providence Logbook Jul 29, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Matavai Otaheite] towards Timor in the East Indies – 1792

Remarks Sunday July 29th

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and cloudy weather

 2 pm: People washing and mending cloaths

 3 pm: Sailmaker repairing the old Fore Top Sail

 4 pm: Saw tropic birds and others of the petterel kind – at 5 Light airs, hauled down the Fore Top Mast Steering Sails – worked the pumps

 7 pm: at 7 the wind shifted round suddenly with very heavy rain – up courses and in 2d Reefs Topsails

10 pm: Frequent hard showers of rain

 2 am: Light Airs and cloudy weather

 5 am: Out 2d Reefs Fore & Main Top Sail & set courses

 6 am: Up Top Gallant Yards and set the sails

 7 am: Saw tropic birds

 8 am: Moderate breeze and fair weather – swell from ye SE; loosed the small Sails to dry – Served portable soup gruel for breakfast (The first time since our arrival at Otaheite)

11 am: Got up all wet cloaths to dry, Chests & Bags & washed the Gun, Orlop, and Cockpit decks Mustered the ships company in divisions, after which Captain Bligh read prayers to them

12 noon: At Noon moderate breeze and fair weather – Swell from the SE – Assistant in Company
