Tobin's Providence Logbook Feb 18-19, 1792

H M Ship Providence, moored in Adventure Bay [Van Diemens Land 1792]

Saturday February 18th

 1 pm: Moderate and cloudy weather

 3 pm: Employed stowing the Holds and Gun Room

 5 pm: Received 6th turn of wood per Launch

 6 pm: Boats employed sounding the Bay

 8 pm: Received ⅓ of a load of wood per Launch

12 mid: Squally with Showers

 4 am: Fresh Gales and cloudy with Showers of Rain – Served thick gruel and portable Soup for Breakfast

 6 am: Sent the wooders &c on shore

 8 am: Served Krout – Received ½ a load of wood per Launch, employed stowing the hold and Gun Room – Roused up the Sheet Cable and cleaned the Tier – Completed the After Hold – Fresh breezes and cloudy with Squalls

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and cloudy with Squalls

 3 pm: Fires were seen to the Northward

 4 pm: Cleared Hawse, and cleaned the Decks

 6 pm: Squalls and heavy Rain received the 6th Turn of Wood per Launch

12 mid: Thick Gales and Squally weather

 3 am: Hard Rain

 6 am: The Launch employed bringing on board plank &c from the shore

 8 am: Squally with Rain and hail the Air remarkably cold – The wood cutters detained on board some time from the badness of the weather – Served Krout – Fresh coiled the Best and Small Bower Cables and cleaned the Orlop Deck – Received 13th turn of water per Launch with some wood

12 noon: Squally with hail & Rain – Air cool
