Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 9, 1791

Log &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the [Island of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Sunday October 9th

 1 pm: Fine Weather with a fresh Breeze

 2 pm: Saw a number of flying fish

 3 pm: At Sun set wetted the upper deck, which has been done daily, the weather permitting since [over/our] 7¼ [?] the [warm?] [?] to the Flying clouds – Northward of the [?]

 6 pm: The air cool and pleasant

 8 pm: Fresh Gale and fine weather – struck two Lays Porpoises with the Harpoon but did not get them on board

12 mid: Several Porpoises about the Ship

 4 am: Cloudy weather

 7 am: Saw a number of flying fish

 8 am: Fresh Breezes with rain & Squally weather – Cleaned below and aired with fires – Mustered the Ships Company in Divisions

10 am: Fair weather – Captain Bligh read the morning service to the Ships Company

12 noon: At Noon Fresh Breezes and open cloudy weather – the Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 11°..11′ South
