1 pm: Light Breezes and hazy weather
3 pm: The East E– of Tenariffe SWBW½W
5 pm: Got [?] becalmed under the Land, wore Ship and stood out to Sea with an intention of getting in the next morning – at 34 Minutes past 6 the Town of Santa Cruz West a few miles nad the East point of the road NE 2 Miles, The Peak WBS
10 pm: Fresh Gale and Squally double Reefed the Topsails
12 mid: Moderate and Hazy Tacked Ship and Stood in for the Land – Set Top Gallant Sails
4 am: Tacked Ship
5 am: Tacked again and stood in – at 4 the East point of the Road NNW 2 Leagues
7 am: Light Airs off the Land and calm at Times
9 am: At ½ past 9 came to an anchor in Santa Cruz road in 35 fathoms with the Small Bower and Moored Ship with the Best Bower in 47 Fathoms NBE & SBW with a cable each way – The East point of the road EBN Distant 4 Leagues and the West point SW½W 6 Leagues Garrison point SWBW 2 Miles & the Church of St. Francis West 1 Mile Employed mooring Ship cleaning Decks &c at Noon Calm and fair weather. The Assistant in Company. The Peak WBN just discernable above the mountains. Found in the Road several Spanish Vessels ——
On entering the Road we were visited by the Port Master to enquire our name, destination,
&c and on anchoring Lieutenant Guthrie was sent to learn if the Governor would return a salute as well
as to get permission to water & procure refreshments – The Governor was on a visit to the
