Log Book &c. of H M Ship Providence from Spithead towards [the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Remarks Monday August 15th 1791

 1 pm: Light Airs and clear with small rain at times

 2 pm: Clear to the Northward

 3 pm: Calm – two Sail in sight

 8 pm: Head to the Northward – Calm – Sent the Jolly boat on board a portugueze Schooner from St. Ubas bound to Cork Laden with Salt

10 pm: At 10 PM a light Breeze from the Northward

12 mid: Light Breezes with Rain

 3 am: Fresh Breezes with Rain

 4 am: Thick drizling rain – At Day light 2 Sail in sight, one in the SW Quarter the other in the SE

 5 am: Hazy Weather

 6 am: Set the Driver and royals

 7 am: Inclinable to Calm – Employed cleaning and washing the Ship fore and aft

11 am: Calm – Sailmakers employed

12 noon: At Noon a light [?] from the WNW
   Latitude Observed 45..01 North
 Assistant in Company
