Monday 23  Moderate & Cloudy Weather PM made & shortened sail Occasionally to keep in our Station Middle part Moderate & clear aM Light airs inclinable to Calm People Employed Occasionally Sailmaker making the royal & Carpenter making a Top Gallant yard at Noon Light Airs & clear Weather In Company with the Providence

Tuesday 24  Light Airs & fine pleasant Weather Sailmaker & Carpenter Employed as before Middle part Light airs inclinable to Calm AM Light airs & Cloudy made & shortened Sail Occasionally to keep in our Station at Noon Fresh breezes & Cloudy in Company with the Providence

Wednesday 25  Fresh breezes & Close cloudy Weather Sailmaker Employed repairing Sail at ¾ past 4 Saw the Island of Whytootacke bearing SWbW made the Signal to the Commodore on seeing it .. In Studding Sails 2nd reefs of the Topsails & handed Top Gallant Sails & Square Mainsail AM Fresh breezes & close Cloudy Weather with Rain at times made & shortened sail & Tacked Ship Occasionally out Reefs of the Topsails & at ½ past 6 Wore Ship & stood in for the Land at 8 the extreames of the Land in sight from WNW to SW distance off Shore 5 Miles Tacked Ship & hove too Occasionally to Leeward of the Island 3 Cannoes came alongside & the Natives shewed every appearance of Friendship at Noon Strong breezes & Cloudy Weather [?] under the Lee of the Island in Company with the Providence

Thursday 26  Fresh breezes & squally with Flying Showers of Rain Word & Tacked Ship Occasionally lying too under the Lee of Whytootackee several Canoes alongside with Cocoa Nutts & other Articles of Trade which we purchased .. Picked up an Indian that had jumped overboard from the Providence & put him on board a Canoe at 3 I went on board the Providence on duty & at ½ past returned at ½ past 5 bore up & made Sail at 6 the extreams of the Island from S47°E to S67°E distance 3 Leagues made & shortened Sail Occasionally to keep in our Station AM Fresh breezes & Cloudy Weather at 6 out all reefs At Noon Fresh breezes & Cloudy Weather Set Top Gallant Sails & Studding Sails In Company with the Providence
