Remarks on board His Majestys Brig Assistant

Moored in Matavie Bay Otaheite

June 1792

Wednesday 13  These 24 Hours First part Moderate & Clear Middle Light Airs & Cloudy Latter Light Airs Employed on board making Gaskets Carpenter on Shore repairing the Cutter Sailmaker still on the Square Mainsail a Party on shore cutting Firewood at 5 PM a heavy shower of rain with a flush of wind struck Top Gallant masts & got up a range of the Sheet Cable AM took up the Small bower Anchor, the Buoy being sunk & water logged put another Buoy on let go the Anchor & Moored as before Sailmaker & Carpenter employed on Shore as before Set up the lower Rigging up Foreward Sent the old Top Gallant Sails on shore to be repaired

Thursday 14  Light Airs & Cloudy Weather PM Employed setting up the Main rigging & Main & Fore Topmast rigging received on board the Square Mainsail it being repaired Sailmaker employed overhauling the Old Top Gallant Sails & Fore Topsail Carpenter on the Cutter AM Light winds & variable sent a Hogshead & Halfhogshead to the Post to Season Carpenter employed on the Cutter & Sailmaker on the Topsail at 8 AM swayed up Top Gallant masts blacked the Main royal mast, Received a turn of water per the Launch at 9 sent a Party on Shore to cut Firewood

Friday 15  First part Light Airs & Cloudy Middle part Calm Latter Light Airs & fine Weather Sailmaker employed on the Top Gallant Sails [received?] the Top Gallant Sails & Top Sails on board being repaired Carpenter on the Cutter a party wooding & 2 hands that remained on board making Sinnett AM sent on shore the Middle & Top Gallant Stay sails to be repaired Employed on board & on Shore as before Received 14 Brooms by the wooding party & some Firewood & Broom Stuff

Saturday 16  All these 24 hours Light airs & fine pleasant Weather PM Sailmaker on the Staysails Carpenter on the Cutter & a Party wooding on Shore Employed on board working up Junk & Received by the Wooding party 29 Brooms & the Top Gallant Staysail is being repaired AM People Employed on board & on Shore as before Sailmaker making a new royal, Our Commander on the Jolly boat Surveying the Dolphin bank Cleaned between decks
