Flinders's Providence Logbook Sep 30, 1792

Remarks Sunday 30th Off the East side of Timor

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and hazey Weather At 1:20 Bore away again

 2 pm: People washing and mending their Cloaths

 4 pm: Saw a Man of War Bird and some brown Gulls

 5 pm: Before Dark – shortened Sail – In 2nd reefs – Spoke the Assistant the Captain rather surprised at not seeing the Land concluded to stand on a while and then stand off and on

 9 pm: Hazey Weather

10 pm: Moderate Breezes and fine Weather but rather hazey

12 mid: Ditto Weather At 1 AM Concluding ourselves nearly in the Latitude of the South Point of Timor, hauled to the Wind and wore Ship every two Hours per Signal

 4 am: Ditto Weather but more Hazey

 5 am: At Daybreak Saw the Island Timor in the NW – high Land extending 7 or 8 Points – Made the Assistants Signal for that Purpose – At the same Time 5:40 Bore up and made all Sail d At 8 Light Breezes about 4 Leagues off shore

 9 am: Mustered in Divisions and Divine Service performed

10 am: At 10:30 Saw the Island Rottee in the WSW

11 am: At 11:30 Made the Signal and spoke the Assistant

12 noon: At Noon Moderate Breezes and fine Weather about 4 Leagues distant from Timor & 7 from Rotte
