Flinders's Providence Logbook Aug 14, 1792

Remarks Tuesday 14th In the great South Sea

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and cloudy Weather with frequent rain. ¼ past One Hove too and sent the Whale boat on board the Assistant for Lieutenant Portlock at ½ past the Boat returned – made Sail – At 2 Tacked Ship

 3 pm: At 3 Squally Weather In Top gallant sails

 4 pm: Cloudy Weather

 5 pm: ½ past five Lieutenant Portlock returned – In 2nd and 3rd Reefs of the Fore and Main and close reefed the Mizen topsail – hoisted in the Boat and made Sail

 8 pm: Fresh Breezes and thick cloudy Weather with small Rain at Intervals

12 mid: The Assistant ahead carrying a Light

 2 am: Squally

 4 am: Fresh Breezes and cloudy Weather

 6 am: At Daybreak, out reefs and set Top gallant sails

 7 am: Saw a Tropic Bird

 8 am: Strong Breezes and cloudy Weather

 9 am: Got up all wet cloaths – washed below and aired with Fires – Out 1st Reefs and set Studding sails People making Points and spinning Spunyarn

12 noon: Fresh Breezes and cloudy Weather at Noon and rather hazey on the Horizon
   Assistant in Company
