Flinders's Providence Logbook May 8-10, 1792

Remarks on board H. M. S. Providence

Moderate Breeze and fair Weather Tuesday 8th May – The Launch sent on shore and hauled up between the Greenhouse and the Tent – At 8 a Shower of Rain after which it cleared up and a fine Night succeeded it – AM Light Airs and fine Weather The Awnings spread. Decks washed and Ship pumped out as usual every Morning – The Carpenter and two of his Crew on shore at Work upon the Launch, raising upon her – Carpenters on board building the Green house – The Cooper making Boraccios or breakers for the Boats – the People mostly about the Rigging – Loosed Sail to dry – A moderate Supply of Pigs & fruit which are served as before
At Noon A Cool sea breeze and fine Weather

Wednesday 9th Moderate Breeze & fine Weather Handed Sails – At 8 Light Airs and fine Night AM, Light Airs – Planks sent on shore to the Carpenters by the Cutter – The Ships Company employed upon necessary Duty at their several Occupations – A very scanty Supply of every kind this Morning
At Noon – A Light Breeze & fine Weather

Thursday 10th Fine Weather – the Salters employed principally restowing their former Work and salting a fresh Hog sometimes – At 8 Fine clear Night – AM The Cutter sent on shore for Water at Day break – Cleaned below – The Carpenters on board and on shore employed as before – The People employed about the Rigging and in the Main Hold – Fresh Pork served as before to the Ships Company with Taro or [Coccos?] root – A moderate Supply to day
At Noon – Light Airs & Cloudy Weather
