Flinders's Providence Logbook Apr 4, 1792

Remarks Wednesday April 4th 1792 Providence

 1 pm: Fresh Trade wind fair Weather

 2 pm: Set up the Armourers Forge

 3 pm: Several Sheerwaters seen

 4 pm: Shortened Sail and hauled to the Wind ½ past Tacked Ship lowered the Jolly boat and sent her to pick up a Hammock which had fallen overboard. Tacked Ship at 5 the Boat returned with the Hammock, hoisted her in and made Sail as before

 7 pm: Before Dark In Steering Sails and 1st Reef Topsails

 8 pm: Fresh Breezes and fine light Night

10 pm: Lightning from the Northward

12 mid: Fine Clear Weather

 2 am: Continual Flashes of vivid Lightning from the NNEastward – The Watch scrubbing their Hammocks

 4 am: Several flying fish and two Tropic Birds seen – At Day break, Out 1st Reefs and set Steering Sails – The Watch scrubbing their Hammocks

 7 am: Spread the Awnings

 8 am: Moderate Breezes and fine Weather Cleaned below – The Marines exercised at Platoon firing – Wort at the usual Time A Cask of Spruce Beer broached as yesterday – A Squall and heavy Rain In Steering Sails ½ past when over, set them again – The Armourer at his Forge

12 noon: Fresh Breezes and fair Weather
