1 pm: Fresh Breezes & thick squally Weather rainy at Times and a great head sea – The Assistant about three Cables Lengths ahead, was suddenly taken aback, eased of[f] the after sheets clewed up the Main-sail and went to Leeward of her, ordered her to keep always abaft the Beam – At 4 Close reefed the Main and handed the Fore & Mizen topsails. Sent down the Fore Top Gallant yard – Worked the Pumps as usual
8 pm: Fresh Gales and Cloudy Weather
10 pm: Continual Flashes of Lightning from the North and NE
12 mid: Fresh Breeze and fair Weather A Fire all Night in the Galley to air Ship – Too great a Head-sea to make more Sail
3 am: Still much Lightning from the NE
4 am: Fresh Breeze and fine Weather
5 am: At Day break Made all Sail Top Gallant yards up
8 am: Cleaned below and Aired with Fires Exercised the Seamen at the Great Guns and the Marines at Small Arms – fired 10 Rounds each People making Points &c Carpenters repairing the Launch & Sailmakers the Fore topsail – Wort as usual – A Cask of Spruce Beer broached & given instead of Wine
12 noon: Moderate Breezes and fine Weather
