Bond's Providence Logbook Feb 6-9, 1793

Remarks &c Moored in Port Royal Harbour

Wednesday 6th February Moderate breezes and fine weather Middle part light breezes – Latter part Moderate and cloudy at times. At 1 PM moored ship with the stream anchor to the WNW in 10 fathom muddy bottom – At sunset down Top Gallant Yards. – AM washed the Gun, Orlop, and Cockpit Decks – Sailmakers fitting the Quarter Deck Awning and making Draw Buckets – Anchored here H. M. Sloop Hound, Captain Lawford

Thursday 7th February First part fresh breezes and fair weather – Middle and latter part moderate breezes and cloudy. PM set up the Top Mast rigging. Sent John Russel & John Ryland marines, to the Hospital; also Samuel Dennis, Seaman, one of the three men who were wounded by arrows from the Natives of New Guinea. AM received 120 pounds of fresh Beef – Commodore Ford & some Captains &c. visited the ship and appeared highly satisfied by the disposition of the Plants and Charts of our late navigation. Sailmakers employed fitting the Quarter Deck Awning

Friday 8th February First part moderate breezes and fair weather – middle part light breezes and clear – latter part light airs and clear. Calm and dark cloudy weather at times with showers of rain. PM. sailmakers employed as before. AM washed the Gun, Orlop & Cockpit Decks. received and served 110 pounds of fresh Beef. People employed washing and mending their Clothes – At 8 received the Guard from the Penelope

Saturday 9th February Light airs and fair weather all these 24 hours. AM. At 8 Hour.30′ His Excellency the Governor, General Williamson, visited the ship and was saluted with 19 Guns on coming and going away. received 110 pounds of fresh Beef. Loosed sails to dry – returned the Guard to H. M. Sloop Hound
