Thursday 20th – Hard gales and hazy weather 4 a very heavy gale; The Snow, Captain Hunter, out and stood to sea, leaving two anchors behind – 12 More Moderate At 3 AM Light breezes with haze; arrived here an English Whaler. Light airs inclinable to calm. 8 the Launch returned, having left the Snow and got safely secured on the beach at Roben Island – swayed up and crossed Top Gallant Yards and bent the Top Gallant Sails. Served Mutton &c. – Ship's Draught of Water Forward 14·5 Inches Abaft 15·6 – Moderate breezes & pleasant weather
Friday 21st. Ditto Weather received a turn of water per Launch. Sat up the Top Mast and Top Gallant rigging. Employed stowing away articles in the Gun room, and preparing for sea. Sailed a french ship. At 4 AM. made the signal to unmoor Light breezes and hazy weather veered away and unmoored ship on the Best Bower – Hove up both anchors and warped ship into a clean berth – brought up with the Best Bower in ¼ less 5 fathoms water. Fresh breezes and squally. Handed Main Top Sail.
Thursday 22nd – Moderate breezes and hazy weather saw the Waksomhead in the
offing with a sigtnal of Distress flying – Sent our boats with a Kedge and Towlines, and fired 22
Guns at intervals, signals for Assistance which were answered by the Pitt Indiaman – All the
English and some foreign vessels sent their boats, & an Anchor & Cable was sent from the shore. At 7
she warped into the Bay and anchored – At 10 fresh breezes and clear weather – 6 AM. sent the boats
to assist the Snow in mooring &c. 8 Light airs and hazy – boats returned. Served fresh Mutton
&c as usual – Moderate and pleasant weather
