Providence Logbook Jan 7, 1793

Remarks Monday 7th January 1793 [Towards] St. Vincents

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and fine Weather. Saw a brown Sheerwater and Mother Careys Chicken.

 5 pm: Let fresh Water into the Ship and worked the Pumps.

12 mid: Porpoises about the Ship.

 5 am: Served thick Portable Soup Gruel for Breakfast, Bore Cole and Portable Soup thickned with Oatmeal for Dinner. Served Vinegar a half pint per Man. Krout as customary.

 7 am: Exercised Great Guns and Small Arms the Marines fired. This Day I always see every Man and Officer mustered at his Quarters.

10 am: at ½ past 10 died Thomas Galloway after a long illness in Dysentery.

12 noon: Fair and pleasant Weather. Broached a Puncheon of Spruce Beer.
  The Poor Man who died this morning caught his disease at Timor. At St. Helena he recovered so rapidly that the Surgeon had no doubt of his doing well, but this dreadfull disease returned on him again in three days after we Sailed. He has been nursed with the greatest care.
