Providence Logbook Oct 24, 1792

Remarks Wednesday 24th October 1792

 1 pm: Strong Gales with thick Cloudy Weather and spitting Rain.

 2 pm: Much Sea from the SE.

 4 pm: In 3rd Reefs and down Top Gallant Yards.

 6 pm: The appearance of bad Weather. Close Reefed the Fore Top Sail.
Struck Top Gallant Masts and Reefed the Fore Sail. Worked the Pumps.

 4 am: Weather rather better. Swayed up Top Gallant Masts and out all but 1st. Reefs.

 6 am: Served thick Portable Soup Gruel for Breakfast. Krout and Portable Soup in the Pease for Dinner.

10 am: Set Fore Top Mast Studding Sail. Cleaned below and Aired with Fires.

12 noon: Fresh Gale and Cloudy, Sun out at times, much Sea. Great care required in attending the Plants to give them Air and to prevent the Spray of the Sea hurting them.
