Providence Logbook Oct 18, 1792

Remarks Thursday 18th October 1792

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and fair Weather with a slight Haze.

 2 pm: Saw a Man of War Bird.

 4 pm: In Main Top Mast and Main Top Gallant Steering Sails

 7 pm: In 1st Reefs of the Top Sails and set Fore Top Mast Steering Sail.

12 mid: Cloudy with sudden Gusts of Wind as the Clouds passed the Zenith. Shortned Sail occasionally.

 4 am: Sea from the WSW and continued for 3 hours, the Ship pitching very much. It is remarkable that for these 5 or 6 days past we have regularly met with this Sea. The first time about 1 O'Clock and later every day since that, as we have advanced to the Westward.

 8 am: Fresh Breezes with a Swell from the SW & SSW. Ship little motion. Out Reefs and made Sail.

 9 am: Served Hot Breakfast, and Portable Soup in the Pease for Dinner.

10 am: Saw Rock Weed, Porpoises. Employed enlarging the Green House on the Quarter Deck and working up Junk.

12 noon: Fresh Breezes and fair Weather with Haze. Swell from the SW. Under all Sail.
   Assistant in Company.
