The Heavy Rain ended with the dawning of the Day, the remaining part was attended with very heavy Clouds, light Easterly Winds and Calms. Thermometer from 76 to 80 Degrees.
Employed repairing the Whale Boat, fitting up the Cabbin to received the Plants. Starting and filling Water.
Some of our Officers to Day were successfull in Duck Shooting, as they have frequently been in their excursions to Oparre. They brought me an account that the Chief of Paparrah was in possession of many of my Books, and one Volumn of Dampiers Voyage he gave them. Some remarks which I had written on it with a Pencil in the blank pages at the end of the Book were perfectly distinct. I have sent a Message to To,ma,rre, the Chief, that I shall be glad to see him. He has hitherto been prevented from coming by a dread of my not treating him well, and I have not been able to do away his fear. I attribute it to some underhand Work of our Friends at this place, who would consider him as a Rival, and do not like him to partake of the benefits they derive from us.
My Plants have received vast benefit from the Rains, & I hope in ten Days they will be fitt to be received on Board, as I am now anxious about my time.
